■位　置

　伊達市は北海道の南西部に位置し、函館市と札幌市のほぼ中間にあり、南は噴火湾（内浦湾）に面し、東は工業都市室蘭市、いで湯の里登別市、西と北は支笏洞爺国立公園ゾーン内にある、洞爺湖町と壮瞥町に隣接しています。
さらに、大滝区は壮瞥町をはさんでの飛び地となり札幌市、千歳市、喜茂別町、留寿都村、白老町と隣接しています。

Geographic location:
Located on the southwestern edge of Hokkaido, the city of Date is roughly midway between the cities of Hakodate and Sapporo. To the south of the city one can look out onto the Funkawan harbor. To the east of Date are the industrial city of Muroran and the geothermal city of Noboribetu. To the northwest, the cities of Toya and Sobetu sit side by side inside of the shikotsutoya national park.
Beyond the city of Sobetu is Date cities detached district of Ootaki. The small district of Ootaki, is next to the adjacent cities of Sapporo,and Chitose, as well as, the towns of Kimobetsu, Rusutsu, and Shiraoi.

■特　徴

　伊達市は明治３年（1870年）に、仙台藩一門亘理伊達家領主の伊達邦成とその家臣・領民たちが集団で移住をして開拓したという歴史を持っています。
北海道にあって四季を通じて温暖な気候に恵まれていることから「北の湘南」とも呼ばれ、道内はもとより道外からも移り住む方々が増えています。
暮らしを支える病院や銀行、大型ショッピングセンター、商店街などが市街地の中にコンパクトに集約されている暮らしやすいまちとなっています。
また、人口およそ３万７千人の小さなまちに350人を超える知的障がいを持つ方々が市民と共にまちの中で暮らしており、160人以上の方々が市内60を超える事業所で働いています。障がいのある人たちが安心して暮らせる支援システムと、何よりも暖かく受け入れ包み込む市民の心と理解のあるまちです。

Date’s Charm:
Date city was founded in the 3rd year of the Meiji era (1870) by Date Kunishige, a vassal for the honorable house of Date and Lord of the Watari fiefdom. Possessed with a desire to cultivate the land and tame the wild north, He migrated with his retainers and citizens to Hokkaido.
　Within Hokkaido, The city of Date is well known for being blessed with warm weather year round and is often called the Shonan of the north. Because of this, the number of people moving to Date from Hokkaido and beyond is increasing. With essential services such as Hospitals, Banks, as well as Large-scale shopping centers, and strip malls assembled within the compact city center, the city of Date has become an easy living community. As a result of the accessibility to care services, and despite the small town population of roughly 37,000 people, Date is home to more than 350 individuals with developmental disabilities who are active members of the community. More than 160 of which work at one of the sixty plus companies located within the city limits. Both Date cities developmental disabilities support system and the citizens, whom place acceptance and full inclusion above all else, have made the city of Date a place of compassion and understanding.

■産業

　伊達市は農業や水産業、大滝区の林業などの１次産業を基幹として、多彩な産業が展開されています。平成18年には大滝と合併したことによりいで湯の里として観光産業の発展にも力を注いでいます。
農業は道内有数の恵まれた気候風土を生かして、「だて野菜」に象徴されるように野菜を中心として稲作、畑作、酪農、畜産などが展開されています。
水産業は、ホタテ貝の養殖を中心として秋サケ漁などが盛んで、近年は「幻の魚」といわれている「マツカワかれい」の種苗育成のための施設が伊達市にできたこともあり、その水揚げに対する期待も高まっています。

Industry:
As the mainstay of Date’s economy the agricultural industry, the fishing industry and the forestry industry have been expanded and diversified. In the 18th year of the Heisei era (2006), the district of Ootaki merged with Date city and together, they have focused their efforts on increasing the tourist industry visa v the abundant geothermal resources in the area.
As for agriculture, the city of Date, being blessed with advantageous climate and geographic features, is a prominent producer within Hokkaido. In order to develop a “Date city” brand name, the city is focusing its efforts on expanding rice production, dry field cultivation, dairy farming, and animal husbandry.
At the core of Date city’s prosperous fishing industry is the autumn salmon run and “Hotate” shellfish farms. Most recently, a “phantom fish” or “Matsukawa flounder” hatchery has been constructed in the city, with it come high hopes for future expansion.
